Two e-cigarette bills will be taken up by a work group in the interim.

E-cigarettes are electronic devices that allow users to inhale a vaporized solution of nicotine, flavors and other chemicals. They are not yet regulated by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, and their long-term health effects are in debate. Rep. Carolyn Tomei (my opponent), chairwoman of the House human services committee, sent the bills to a work group that will study the issues. She was a sponsor of Rep. Phil Barnhart’s bill, which sought to expand Oregon’s Clean Air Act to include e-cigarettes.
