Oregon Governor Not Just Governor of Portland

Our statewide elected officials cannot be leaders of just a few zip codes in Oregon. We need leadership that will serve ALL Oregonians, fairly and impartially, and with a willingness to engage in communities based on the issues that matter to them...even when we don't agree on the politics. We have to come together as a state and as leaders if we're going to solve the real problems - like poor performing schools, a lagging economy, failures of state agencies like DHS, air quality issues in Portland, and yes, address the needs and concerns of those in the Eastern and Southern parts of the state. It's disappointing to see that in her State of the State, Governor Brown doesn't seem to feel the same way.

Oregon and The Cycle of Addiction then Incarceration

As a father, it hurts me to read of this family's heartbreak. To lose their daughter in this way is devastating. We have got to do a better job making sure our frontline programs, even those being delivered inside the criminal justice system, are working. Otherwise we'll never be able to help people get out of the cycle of addiction and incarceration.
But this story also highlights the need for better public records reform. But-for someone on the inside leaking the full records to the press, this story wouldn't have been fully told. Without sunlight, we won't have change. No family should ever have to suffer like this.

Oregon’s Median Hourly Wage was $18.02

Oregon’s median hourly wage was $18.02 during the first quarter of 2015. Six counties had median wages that were higher than the statewide median: Washington, Multnomah, Gilliam, Benton, Morrow, and Clackamas. Median hourly wages ranged from highest in Washington County at $20.70 per hour, to lowest in Malheur County at $14.45 per hour.
The median hourly wage is the level where half the jobs pay more and half the jobs pay less during the quarter.
Hourly wage estimates by county are based on information provided by employers as part of Oregon’s Unemployment Insurance program. This included nearly 1,888,000 jobs in the first quarter of 2015.

Oregon Governor Candidate Allen Alley

Take 10 minutes and listen to Allen Alley on KATU News Your Voice Your Vote with Steve Dunn KATU. These are not partisan issues folks:

End Oregon Legislature’s Perpetual Emergency

Oregon- No Fake Emergencies Ballot Initiative:
The Oregon Constitution allows citizens to circulate petitions and refer legislation to a vote of the people. That’s true unless lawmakers declare in the bill that its subject is so important it should be considered an emergency and go into effect immediately. Then, all referral attempts are off.
That makes the emergency clause a great way to quell dissent, and lawmakers have not hesitated to use it that way in recent years — about half of all bills introduced in 2015 bore emergency clauses — though sometimes it’s difficult to see why. This year, too, they had a field day with so-called emergencies.
There are, of course, exceptions, and they make sense. In the case of what the constitution calls “catastrophic” emergencies, including such things as acts of terrorism and earthquakes, emergency clauses are appropriate, and bills passed as a result would be exempt from the change. Lawmakers already are barred from declaring emergencies in measures dealing with taxation. That would not change.
