Would be nice to see the house. Huge hedge around most of the house blocks view from the street.

Clackamas County wants support for land use deal in 2015

The approach follows a letter the commissioners wrote to legislators about how Clackamas County lacks industrial land, and can't create more with the current urban and rural reserves set-up. This all follows the February 2014 Oregon Legislature session when Washington County politicians struck a bargain that reconfigured the urban and rural reserves after an Oregon Appeals Court decision said the county messed up the designations. It's too bad Oregonians got swindled into the whole SB100 back in the 70's. I think most non-Portland voters would have been boldly against it if they knew it meant local cities and counties had to get permission from Portland (via Metro) to develop their land. The light rail smart growth industrial complex that spawned from it has become too big to fail; It has morphed into a intertwined network of crooked politicians, crony developer friends, and militant environmentalist groups, occupying all levels of government and private industry.

How Does This Work? Kitz Fires This Guy Then Contractor Hires Him?

Cover Oregon has given a $70,000 contract to Aaron Karjala, the health insurance exchange's former top technology official, to assist with litigation against Oracle Corp. Clyde Hamstreet, formerly the exchange's acting executive director, signed the contract with Karjala June 3, less than three months after Gov. John Kitzhaber publicly called for his firing.

This Is Not The Oregon I Grew Up In. After 25 years of Democratic Rule We Need To Make A Change!
Oregon is a place where children have excellent access to health insurance and excellent and improving health. But grinding poverty and unemployment for hundreds of thousands of families plus worse-than-average schools mean it's still a below-average state in which to grow up.

Do you think banning smoking on Oregon beaches is necessary?

If the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department gets its way, smokers could be fined up to $110 for lighting up on the state's beaches. The proposal, which follows the recently approved ban of smoking on state park property, hopes to curb beach litter and establish consistency in smoking rules on state land.
The Parks and Recreation Department is leaving the proposal open for public comment until August 29th and will also host public meetings for discussion in Salem, Seaside, Newport, and Coos Bay. The department says it prefers to educate, rather than punish, beach goers, and hopes to only issue citations to repeat smoking offenders.

Shemia Fagan Votes To Make Your Child's Personal Info Public

HB 2988 passed the house, automatically registering children to vote when they receive their driver’s license. Although they won’t be allowed to vote until they are 18, they won’t have to go to the trouble of registering. But what happens before they turn 18? All their private information will be public record, accessible by anyone who makes the request for it. Republicans issued a minority report, which would have shielded your children’s personal information from public record, but Fagan voted against it. Makes sense, given Fagan is supported heavily by the Bus Project, the left-wing political advocacy group that buses children from downtown Portland into the suburbs to canvass door-to-door for liberal candidates.

Shemia Fagan Again Taking Credit For Someone Else's Work

The Tolbert overpass would re-open a connection proposed to be closed when phase 1 of the sunrise corridor comes in 2015, which currently connects businesses like Oregon Iron Works to the Milwaukie Expressway. The design consideration was a result of a lawsuit filed by affected business owners, ODOT and Clackamas County. However, that didn’t stop Shemia Fagan from taking credit for it, and even filing a bill to make it look like she was somehow involved. About 25 business owners in the area sued ODOT at the beginning of April, demanding that some connection be included in construction.

Governor Vic Atiyeh Our Last Great Governor

The last time I saw Governor Atiyeh was two years ago at the Dorchester Conference in Seaside. He and his lovely wife were leaving the convention center and I opened the door for them. I introduced myself to the Governor, shook his hand and told him "God Bless You". His wife promptly hugged me and told me "that is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to Vic" I wish someone had gotten a picture of that moment. It has been one of the fondest memories in my campaign.

Portland Superintendent Carole Smith's New salary of $257,000 stack up in Oregon.

The news of a pay raise for Portland Public Schools Superintendent Carole Smith has generated a lot of discussion. Portland's school board is getting ready to give Smith, who has been at the helm of Oregon's largest district since 2007, a big raise. One proposal pegged the increase as high as 33 percent, though board members insist the proposal has not been finalized. For context, a $257,000 salary is the equivalent of Smith receiving a 3.85 percent raise every year since she began seven years ago. The chart only includes salary, not additional annuities that are fairly common among superintendents. Smith currently earns a $1,500 monthly annuity, and a proposal by board leadership wanted to up that to $2,500 a month. What do you think of the proposal? Should other school board members approve such an amount, or lobby for a smaller raise?

Bill to expand the size of the Oregon Caves nearly tenfold would lead to a ban on hunting on those lands

The bill was introduced jointly by Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, Oregon Democrats who tout the legislation as a way to preserve the monument, improve forest health and boost the local economy without banning hunting.
The bill would designate more than 4,000 acres of Forest Service land for a preserve and transfer its management to the National Park Service, which manages the Oregon Caves. The version of the Oregon Caves Revitalization Act that passed the U.S. Senate unanimously last week contains language that says the National Park Service would maintain hunting and fishing access in those current Forest Service-managed lands. But skeptics such as Central Point hunter Michael Mull are wary of the Park Service's attitude toward hunters. One of the agency's leaders told a Senate committee last year that the Park Service would "prefer" to phase hunting out in five years should it get management of the surrounding lands.

Oregon's huge increase in people living in high-poverty areas one of nation's most extreme

Oregon experienced one of the nation's most severe increases in people living in areas of concentrated poverty during the first decade of this century, according to a new Census Bureau study of living situations in 2000 and 2010. It was one of just four states -- all in the South except Oregon -- where the share of people living in census tracts with a high share of impoverished residents shot up more than 15 percentage points over that period. Milwaukie, Happy Valley, Oak Grove to split $25 million in parks projects in proposed ballot measure

A proposed North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District rate increase will buy $25 million in development or construction of parks divided equally among Milwaukie, Happy Valley and the Oak Grove area. The current rate is 54 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, and a proposed ballot measure by the Clackamas County commissioners would bump that up to 89 cents. The measure will likely go on the November ballot, if the commissioners agree on the wording by Aug. 7.

Shemia Fagan Ducks Vote To Hold Public Employees Who Are Sex Offenders Accountable!!

In one of the most startling and cowardly moves last regular session, Shemia Fagan hid-out to avoid taking a vote that protects children from sexual abuse by public employees. When the bill was pulled to the floor of the House, Fagan was nowhere to be found. She arrived fashionably late just after the vote and her Democratic leadership covered it up by marking her"excused for house business.” She had no committees or work groups at the time that would have trumped her responsibilities on the House Floor. Unbelievably, a victim of sexual abuse has a two-year window to bring a civil suit when their abuser is a public employee (represented by unions that fund Shemia Fagan’s political campaigns). This bill would have closed the loophole that the Department of Justice testified would affect 20 victims per year.

Gun control Lawsuit over Multnomah County ordinance set for Wednesday Trial

Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Dailey is scheduled to hear from lawyers representing the county and five plaintiffs who are suing the county, claiming the ordinance shouldn’t apply within city limits. The trial begins at 9: 30 a.m. in room 716 of the Multnomah County Courthouse, 1021 S.W. 4th Ave. County commissioners approved the ordinance in April 2013 over vocal opposition from gun rights activists. The ordinance is more stringent than Oregon law. It makes it illegal to carry a loaded weapon in public and mandates that gun owners take pains to keep their weapons out of a minor’s hands. With some exceptions, it also prohibits firing a gun anywhere in the county. I wrote last month in detail about the debate over the ordinance and its potential to set a statewide precedent.

Sundae In Sellwood Park August 3rd Noon to 5 PM!!

A crisis is growing in Oregon’s timber dependent counties along with the Douglas Firs.

Law enforcement is falling apart in that half of the state where you don’t find a Starbucks on every corner. I talked with Sheriff John Bishop, who’s quitting after 6 years of trying to police 16-hundred square miles with only six deputies. Thirty years ago the Willamette Valley contracted gang green ecological insanity and decided that the logging industry had to die…so they killed it. That cut off the life blood of jobs and taxes that supplied paychecks and public services. And Oregon’s 85 percent democrat party congressional delegation doesn’t have any intention of fixing it…nor does John Kitzhaber. A fix is actually easy. This state grows six billion board feet of trees every single year. If we cut, we create 66-thousand permanent, family wage jobs and we’d never run out of trees. Instead, the plan seems to be…let it grow unchecked, till it burns, and let unemployment and crime grow in Oregon’s rural towns till it’s impossible to live there. The only jobs Kitzhaber and company care about are their own. By Lars Larson.

A smoke house is now illegal in Oregon. I did not know that. Otto's is one of the few left in Our State being grandfathered in! In 1890, a sausage maker was born named Otto Eichentopf. Little did he know what was going to transpire in 120 years and that five generations later the small family business that he started would still be going strong and be nationally known today. Presently, Otto’s is run with the presence of three generations, Jerry and Gretchen, their three daughters Heidi, Christie, and Bereka, along with Heidi’s husband Justin and children Tanner and Kyrstin. Each person takes an active role in the daily activities at Otto’s. Wehby, Merkley differ on Contraceptives Ruling

The high court ruled that some companies with religious objections can avoid the contraceptives requirement in President Barack Obama's health care overhaul. Republican Monica Wehby's campaign manager says Wehby "doesn't see a problem with the ruling," as long as every woman has access to contraception through other means. The court's ruling suggested ways the Obama administration could offer birth control to women whose employers refused. Democratic incumbent Jeff Merkley denounced the decision, releasing a statement that called the ruling "an unacceptable intrusion of bosses into personal health options."

Salem daycare suspension sparks Pot Debate

SALEM -- The state of Oregon has suspended the license of a daycare in Salem because the manager and other staff members smoke pot at the facility while children are on-site. Parents who take their kids to day care centers and schools in Portland are now asking questions. It was hard for KGW to find anyone who said smoking pot at a day care is a good idea, whether it's medicinal or not. And every expert said trust is the biggest key for parents. The state has set up a resource for parents to check every licensed and registered daycare in Oregon, through Oregon.gov. There you can check for possible violations, complaints, active licensing and employees. The state encourages parents to call 503-556-6616 with additional questions.

Texas grower to close Oregon nursery, lay off 100!!

CORNELIUS, Ore. (AP) — A Texas grower has announced plans to close a nursery near Cornelius, Oregon, and lay off 100 people. The Oregonian reports that the Berry Family of Nurseries announced the closure Monday in a mandatory notification to Oregon state officials. The letter says the closing and job cuts will occur "on or about" Sept. 30. The company's website says the site in Cornelius, west of Portland, grows evergreen shrubs and trees and produces holiday greenery on 361 acres. It's known as BFN Operations Oregon. The newspaper says BFN will be the second Cornelius-area nursery to lay off dozens of workers this year. Glenn Walters Nursery cut 118 jobs.

Cover Oregon's transition to federal exchange rated 'high risk' for Failure!!

A report by independent quality-assessment contractor Maximus found that Cover Oregon’s attempt to transition to the federal exchange is at a high risk of failure, and for many of the same reasons that forced the transition in the first place. The reporting period runs through the end of April, and Maximus found that even then Cover Oregon needed to quickly hire a"systems integrator” (SI) to manage the transfer to the federal exchange. Maximus emphasized that delay in hiring a systems integrator could jeopardize enrollments for next year. Nine other companies are also in the running for the contract, which Cover Oregon estimates will be for $30-$35 million.
A recent estimate found that 80,000 people who enrolled through Cover Oregon this year will have to re-enroll through the federal exchange next year. over Oregon still has not hired a systems integrator, however, nearly two months after that warning. It first posted official notice that it was looking for one on May 26. Documents obtained by the On Your Side Investigators show a decision is due Monday. Daycare managers do bong hits with kids at Their Day Care Center!!

Kathleen Hynes, the legal and compliance manager for the Office of Child Care, who has the power to pull the daycare’s license, told KOIN 6 News she didn’t"have that information” if it was legal to smoke pot with a medical marijuana card around kids at the daycare. But an investigation had not started until KOIN 6 News alerted them. But after seeing the KOIN 6 News video showing Araujo and Jaeger smoking, Hynes launched the investigation. The next day, the license for the Alphabet Academy Learning Center was suspended, according to Hynes and Gene Evans with DHS. Araujo and Jaeger agreed to speak with KOIN 6 News and said they both have medical marijuana cards.
