Columbia River Crossing Kitzhaber preps Oregon-only plan;

Kitzhaber acknowledged that Oregon may have neither the time nor the ability to go it alone on a project the state had planned to conduct jointly with Washington for $3.4 billion. But the governor said he believed state leaders could not afford to walk away from the opportunity without exhausting all options.

How can Oregon reduce food stamps, welfare fraud? Oregonian 629 Comments

SALEM -- How can Oregon reduce public assistance fraud?
Proposals under consideration include requiring names to be printed on public assistance cards, requiring photographs of cardholders on the cards, or prohibiting cardholders from using the money to buy pre-paid credit cards.
"Part of it is privacy," Tomei said. "The other part of it is that you can't single out somebody who is using a Trail card. You can't treat them any differently than somebody using a credit card."
But federal regulations, costs and other hurdles make some of the proposals unfeasible, said Rep. Carolyn Tomei, D-Milwaukie, chairwoman of the interim House Human Services and Housing Committee.

Who do you want making your healthcare plan decisions?

And UPS isn’t the only one. Dropping spousal coverage has become a trend among employers due to continually rising health care costs. Obamacare’s wide variety of benefit and coverage mandates combined with new fees, taxes, and penalties of course all increase the cost of coverage, intensifying the trend. The University of Virginia made a similar announcement yesterday.
Do you like your health care plan? Sorry. With Obamacare in effect, costs are going up and plans are changing. If lawmakers would defund this unworkable law, we could focus on health care reform that puts people in charge of the type of health coverage they want.

Should Oregon become a right-to-work state?

People are talking: The conversation on right-to-work for Oregon is moving. Several media reports have speculated whether Oregon could be next. The Cascade Policy Institute of Oregon and the Freedom Foundation of Washington will hold the"Northwest Employee Freedom” forum on the issue Sept. 5 from 7-9 p.m. in Vancouver. Vincent Vernuccio of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy will talk about how it happened in Michigan.
Public Employees Choice Act: Jill Gibson Odell, a lawyer who previously served as legislative director for the Oregon House Republicans, and Libby Braeda, filed Initiative 9, known as the Public Employees Choice Act, earlier this year. The ballot measure, if the adequate signatures are gathered, could be placed on the November 2014 ballot.

Oregon Health Authority Begins Foreclosure On Your Home

Here is How It works With The Oregon Health Authority and Care Oregon Health Ex-Changes.
At a cost of $20,000 for a family of four you can purchase a Bronze Plan insurance policy. That policy pays 60 percent of your medical cost. The remaining 40 percent is your responsibility. So Johnny wrecks the car and runs up a $100,000 health care cost. The insurance pays $60,000. The Balance $40,000 is your responsibility. You have 30 days to make arrangements to pay this amount in full. Unable to work out a payment with the Oregon Health Authority, they issue a Distraint Warrant and begin the process to foreclose on your home. Your mortgage holder receives a notice and now you are in default of your mortgage. The Sheriff has to sell the property in 60 days to collect the money due." Meanwhile you, your family and Johnny are out of the house.

14 Year Old Out Shines Governor Kitzhaber Jordan

This 14 Year Old Out Shines Governor Kitzhaber, Jordan, a 14 year old cattle rancher from Post, Oregon stopped by my booth Thursday night. His parents I am sure are damn proud of him and his four siblings. Jordan knew more about politics and world affairs than any Democrat I have met. Governor Kitzhaber should have a meeting with this young man. The Gov. might learn a thing or two about Oregon.

Major Highway Shut Down For Light Rail Construction

Published on Aug 17, 2013
Hwy 99/McLoughlin Blvd. in Milwaukie, OR, just south of Portland gets shut down for the weekend to make way for the overpass that the $1.5 Billion choo choo train will be using to give some schlup at Tri Met a job, while carrying a few passengers who probably didn't even pay to ride it. The citizens of Clackamas county have been fighting this overpriced disaster for years, but were no match for the millions of dollars in backroom deals for the unions and Stacy & Witbeck to pay off the politicians to shove this down everyone's throats.

Bladderpod controversy reinforces need to reform Endangered Species Act

At 40 years old, the Endangered Species Act of 1973 is in dire need of a mid-life makeover.
This well-intentioned law gives the federal government nearly unlimited power to regulate the use of private lands in the name of protecting endangered species. The spotted owl is not only an example of the sweeping power the act gives the federal government. It's also a clear illustration of its limitations.

Cover Oregon and The Oregon Health Authority

Oregon embraces the tens of millions of dollars Obama has shoveled out to get"state insurance exchanges” off the ground. Cover Oregon hires its hip trendy friends to do those perplexing spots you’re seeing every five minutes on TV that don’t tell you a damn thing about health care…but hey that’s okay…it’s the"creative class”. The whole thing is supposed to launch less than 60 days from now…and THEN…they run out of money. The website that was supposed to guide Oregonians to the best possible insurance policy isn't ready. The Oregonian reports the money was supposed to last till the end of June but ran out in April due to"mis-projection of remaining funds”.
And now the folks who can’t figure out how to sensibly budget 59 million bucks over a few months are going to be making decisions that mean life and death for your family. By Lars Larson

Mayo Clinic employees must marry to keep getting same-sex partner benefits

"I keep seeing "warnings" from gay rights groups, about places where gay marriage is now legal and employers are now requiring domestic partners to marry in order to continue receiving spousal benefits. Frankly, I don't see the problem with this. The LGBT crowd wanted spousal benefits because you weren't allowed to marry - so you got them. Then LGBT wanted to just be able to marry - so you got that. Now your argument for spousal benefits without marriage is no longer applicable. You can't have EVERYTHING. You wanted the same treatment as straight people. You got it. Now live with it!" We freely use words like"Freedom”,"Liberty”."God”,"Country”, and"Patriotism.” We talk about inalienable rights, smaller government, and less taxes. Kitzhaber says a sales tax would be a better way to pay for schools.

What Do You Think? Gov. John Kitzhaber says a sales tax or statewide property tax would be a better way to pay for schools.
"It's a crazy way to fund education, totally," Kitzhaber said about the state's near total reliance on income taxes. "The way to change it is to put something on the ballot that either increases income taxes, or adds either a statewide property tax or a state sales tax."
