The truth is: Ballot Measure 88 states only that "Drivers will need to... follow current Oregon law regarding proof of insurance." Which refers only to applicants taking the road test - there must be proof of insurance for the car in which they're tested - that is the only requirement for insurance! An applicant can borrow a car that is insured, take their driving test and walk out the door with a state issued ID - and never purchase car insurance.

State law requires that Kitzhaber and other candidates fully disclose how they spend campaign money, making their election efforts completely transparent to Oregonians. But Kitzhaber has not disclosed the experienced political consultant steering his campaign behind the scenes, Patricia McCaig. McCaig, 60, rescued Kitzhaber’s wobbly 2010 campaign against Republican Chris Dudley. She later ran Kitzhaber’s efforts to win approval of the $3.4 billion Columbia River Crossing. Many politicians on the West Coast have fallen in love with untested policies and programs they say will help solve global warming. Many of these policies are mind-bogglingly complicated. What, after all, is a low carbon fuel standard (LCFS), or clean fuels program? And how exactly do programs like "cap and trade" work? And, perhaps most importantly, how do these policies impact you, the consumer? California has adopted the nation's only LCFS, a program energy experts say is infeasible. Forcing manufacturers of gasoline and diesel fuels to meet a standard that can't currently be met puts the state's entire fuel supply in a very precarious position.

An Oregon group backing a marijuana legalization initiative has received a $100,000 contribution from Drug Policy Action, a group that was a key backer of a similar legalization campaign in Washington in 2010. The New York-based group -- which is the political arm of the Drug Policy Alliance -- is closely tied to billionaire George Soros, a philanthropist and currency trader who has reportedly spent some $80 million over the last two decades on efforts to legalize marijuana. Drug Policy Action spent nearly $1.8 million on the Washington campaign and officials from the group helped shape the measure to make it more appealing. New Approach Oregon, which has just started collecting signatures for its proposed ballot measure, has also sought to craft an initiative that would appeal to voters who don't themselves use marijuana. Drug Policy Action last year gave $60,000 to the group.
