Senate Republican Leader Ted Ferrioli of John Day and two other Republican senators Saturday called on Democrats to join them in holding an immediate special legislative session with the purpose of ending Cover Oregon. "Next year will be too late..." Gov Kitzhaber is on board with ending Cover Oregon, but said the time to deal with it is in regular legislative session next year. Federal investigators issue subpoena to Cover Oregon, Oregon Health Authority

Oregon has spent $250 million and three years on an ambitious IT project that failed to produce a fully functional exchange. Instead, what was produced was bug-ridden and largely unfinished, documents show. Among other things, the FBI seems to be interested in whether state officials misled their federal counterparts about progress on the exchange in order to get more federal funding. The FBI has asked for all communications between the state and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the so-called "gate reviews," in which federal officials supposedly quizzed state officials about the status of the IT project.

12 ballot measures withdrawn Monday, March 3, 2014, according to the secretary of state's website!!

Our Oregon, a liberal group backed primarily by public-employee unions, has agreed to withdraw 10 proposed measures that would increase taxes on corporations and the wealthy. The group had said it would decide later which of the 10 to move forward with. Last month, Kitzhaber also brokered a compromise between hospitals and the union representing their workers. The Service Employees International Union had proposed ballot measures that would have capped pay for hospital executives, required a minimum amount of charity care and required them to publish pricing information online.

As a result of this double take-over, there is a Triple Threat to our children and their families. That threat includes the Network of School Based Health Centers (SBHCs); the grades K-12 Comprehensive Sexuality Education Standards that the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) promotes; and the Annual Adolescent Sexuality Conference in Seaside (ASC). And what makes this Triple Threat even more unreasonable is that the governor is using our money to pay for it!

John Kitzhaber got his way, and now some big changes could be coming to Oregonians' pocketbooks. Taxpayers currently may claim a $183 exemption credit for themselves and each dependent. Under the proposal, the credit would be eliminated for individuals earning more than $100,000 or couples earning more than $200,000. It's a small change, but eliminating credits for dependents means it would impact large families most, said Rep. Vicki Berger R-Salem. "If we don't do something about it it's just going to increase exponentially," said Sen. Ginny Burdick, D-Portland. "As with any deal, it's a sausage-making process," said Rep. "It's a crazy way to fund education, totally," Kitzhaber said about the state's near total reliance on income taxes. "The way to change it is to put something on the ballot that either increases income taxes, or adds either a statewide property tax or a state sales tax."
