It is a travesty of justice that marriage, as the foundation of society, received no defense in the U.S. District Court. Attorney General, Ellen Rosenblum, in an extreme dereliction of her sworn duty to uphold the law, refused to represent the interests and the people of Oregon. It is a sad day for democracy when one federally appointed judge can overturn, without any representation, the express will of the people of Oregon. Redefining marriage confuses the true purpose and meaning of marriage. An act deliberately ensuring that more children will grow up motherless or fatherless is not an act of love. How does a Federal Judge overturn Oregon's Constitution sighting Violation of The Fourtenth Amendment and Our Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum will not do her job. When Ms. Rosenblum voted against the 14th Amendment when she served on the Oregon Court of Appeals. JURISDICTION::
This action concerns non-custodial parents’
due-process rights in legal matters that affect their
children generally and those rights in the context of
the custodial parent’s decision to change the
children’s names specifically. Pet. at 2. Ms. Ewing
protests that this Court lacks jurisdiction to hear
these issues because Mr. McMenamin failed to raise
them below. Resp.’s Br. at 2, 15-20. The entire
proceeding below concerned three due-process issues:
(1) Ms. Ewing’s benefiting from her false affidavit
stating that Mr. McMenamin had neither
supported nor resided with the children;
(2) Ms. Ewing’s failure to serve or notify Mr.
McMenamin of her name-change petition; and
(3) The trial court’s failure to follow the Oregon
Supreme Court’s binding precedent.
The jurisdictional question that Ms. Ewing asks –
but answers incorrectly – is whether these dueprocess
issues constitute a federal question if Mr.
McMenamin failed to cite the Due Process Clause of
the Fourteenth Amendment.

KATU Obtained a Report from Oregon Listing State Workers' Salaries Compared to those in the Private Sector.

The state is using an average salary for groups of employees. So imagine an employee is making $10,000 a month in total compensation in the private sector, and say the state worker is making a market ratio of 140 percent. That means the state worker would make $14,000 in total compensation a month for doing basically the same job as someone in the private sector. "When I served in the Legislature, I never knew this report existed," Kropf said. "Nobody in that building sees this report. Only the governor sees it, the Department of Administrative Services, and the unions because this is use for collective bargaining."

Ed McNamara Portlands Urban Renewal Advisor, is Leaving City Hall

Ed McNamara, the mayor's policy director overseeing the Portland Development Commission, says he will return in June to his private development company, Turtle Island Development LLC. (more on Turtle Island later). The Oregonian reported this morning that Hales will bring his new urban-renewal plan—including the elimination of a Portland State University "education district"—to the City Council next week. McNamara led the mayor's efforts to double down on urban renewal in Old Town/Chinatown and in Lents. Openly gay judge, Michael McShane, Overseeing Same-Sex Marriage in Oregon

Starting next week, the spotlight on the status of gay marriage in America will shift to the Eugene courtroom of U.S. District Judge Michael McShane – who finds himself in an unusual position. Unlike the five federal judges who have struck down laws prohibiting same-sex marriages in other states in recent months, McShane won't have anyone in the courtroom defending Oregon's constitutional ban when he holds oral arguments Wednesday. And, unlike the other judges, McShane also happens to be one of just nine openly gay members of the federal judiciary, according to the Human Rights Campaign. Backers of a gay marriage initiative are even asking McShane to rule by May 23 so that they don't have to take their fight to the November ballot. McShane, citing the sensitivity of the case, declined to be interviewed for this story.

Legislators OK Hiring 113 Child Welfare Workers At DHS

Oregon legislators on Friday approved hiring 113 child welfare workers, an effort they said is needed to help prevent abuses such as those that recently came to light."What is going on there is a direct result of a lack of funding,” said Sen. Alan Bates, D-Medford."There were such huge caseloads that there was no way in the world they could follow what is going on properly in some areas.” Bates was referirng to recent lawsuits filed against the Department of Human Services for negligence. The state budget includes $10.7 million more from the tax-supported general fund, and $20.4 million more overall, for 113 more child-welfare positions. That’s about 85 full-time workers, according to a budget report. Erin Kelly-Siel from the DHS did not respond to a request for comment on those numbers Friday.
There are approximately 8,700 Oregon children in foster care and each one spends about 457 days in foster care, according to DHS’ website.

Programs Aim At Keeping Kids In Stable Homes

The reason most of these children are in foster care is because their parents are drug addicts. I like to try the simplest solution first. Let's keep these illegal drugs out of Oregon which is actually easy to do and costs a whole lot less than to keep expanding the Department of Human Services (DHS). First step is to keep from giving these cartel members Oregon Drivers Licenses. Kids in Oregon are twice as likely as children nationwide to be placed in foster care. And child advocates say that’s a problem. Mainly because national statistics on the success of foster kids aren’t good — a quarter have been homeless at least once by age 23, and almost half have been on food stamps by the same age. This spring, there was an opening celebration at Bridge Meadows in Portland. It’s a new housing complex where families pay less rent if they agree to adopt three children. And older people, like Linda Komanecky, also move in nearby. They also get a reduction in rent if they agree to volunteer at least 10 hours a week helping adoptive families.

The latest study from the Tax Foundation shows that Oregonians spend more of their incomes on taxes than Americans as an average and shoulder the 16th highest [out of 50] state and local tax burden in the nation, including one of the highest income tax rates in the nation. In recent legislative sessions, House Republicans have put forth measures to provide tax relief to all Oregonians including middle-class and working families, low-income seniors, farmers, businesses and students.

Building 'bridge to nowhere' in Milwaukie!!

Once feared of becoming the"ugliest bridge in America,” now the bridge TriMet is building may be the country’s most useless, at least for people trying to cross it on foot or by bike without an extra leap of faith. Local residents in 2011 panned TriMet’s design for a 1,675-foot-long light-rail bridge across Kellogg Lake, but its look got an aesthetic redesign. The bridge also gained favor with a concept for adding a parallel structure underneath to connect Lake Road with the Trolley Trail walkers and bikers. In 2012, city leaders celebrated getting the Oregon Department of Transportation to approve $1 million in Transportation Enhancement funds for the multi-use structure under the light-rail bridge being built across Kellogg Lake.

New Study Highlights Property Tax Inequities In Portland!

Homeowners with similar properties can pay drastically different property taxes in Portland, according to a new report commissioned by the League of Oregon Cities. Furthermore, homeowners with artificially low property taxes can see a corresponding boost in the value of their property. The report found that homes in North Portland neighborhoods like Boise and Eliot are taxed on less than 45 percent of their market value. And the report’s authors say those lower tax rates make the properties more attractive to buyers. They estimate the lower taxes could add between $6,200 and $30,000 to the value of properties there. According to the study, the average market value of homes in Portland between 2010 and 2013 was about $314,000.

Timber veterans struggle to navigate Oregon's land use law and make forestry profitable!!

The story, which ran online Feb. 28, and on the front page of The Oregonian on March 3, discusses the balance between protecting the environment and protecting small businesses.
Fritch, a long-time forester, ran into a vaguely defined statute in Oregon’s landmark land use law, Senate Bill 100. Now, he is trying to find a way to stay in business, with the help of county and state politicians.
The debate is happening within Oregon’s new economy, which relies on tech-industry bearded hipsters who dress like lumberjacks and go to Pearl District bars named River Pig, rather than actual river pigs, the timber veterans who ran logs down the river for processing. Capital Press, an agriculture-focused publication, wrote about the hearing for Senate Bill 1575. The Press focused on the supporter and opponents who showed up to testify at the Legislature committee meeting.
