Gov. Kitzhaber sat down for an interview with reporter Laural Porter of KGW to discuss his agenda for his next term in office. When asked about gun control Gov. Kitzhaber praised the new background check law recently passed in Washington state and stated that he plans to"pursue vigorously” the expansion of background checks in Oregon. He also indicated that he plans to use health care reform as a means to implement more gun control. He said by using the mental health system and reorganization of the health care system they can"identify families at risk” of gun violence. How exactly will Oregon’s doctors and mental health professionals play into this agenda of gun control. Does Gov. Kitzhaber plan to have doctors report on patients?

This bizarre measure called the"Oregon State Integrated Concealed Handgun Carry Act” has been filed by"Ifeanyichukwu Diru” who you may (or may not) recall, actually ran for Governor.The measure calls for handgun licenses to be limited to one year and all applicants must"submit a mental health report from their physicians as part of conditions to qualify to hold a concealed handgun permit”. We fully expected the lunatic anti-gun fringe to pull out all the stops thanks to their gains in the legislature and the reelection of Kitzhaber, so this ballot measure should not be a surprise, but it is just a down payment on what’s coming down the road. Remember, no matter what the freedom haters in the population centers dream up, most counties in Oregon are pro-gun. If their sheriffs and county commissioners refuse to support this kind of lunacy, it’s going to be up to a tiny number of State Police to try to enforce this kind of nonsense. Bloomberg gun control group enters Oregon governor and state Senate races

Everytown for Gun Safety -- the gun control group funded by billionaire Michael Bloomberg -- is running ads in favor of Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber and attempting to unseat state Sen. Bruce Starr, R-Hillsboro.
The group on Tuesday reported spending just over $56,000 on ads lauding Kitzhaber on gun issues, including a TV ad featuring the brother-in-law of Steve Forsyth, one of the two people killed in the 2012 shootings at Clackamas Town Center.

Bill to expand the size of the Oregon Caves nearly tenfold would lead to a ban on hunting on those lands

The bill was introduced jointly by Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, Oregon Democrats who tout the legislation as a way to preserve the monument, improve forest health and boost the local economy without banning hunting.
The bill would designate more than 4,000 acres of Forest Service land for a preserve and transfer its management to the National Park Service, which manages the Oregon Caves. The version of the Oregon Caves Revitalization Act that passed the U.S. Senate unanimously last week contains language that says the National Park Service would maintain hunting and fishing access in those current Forest Service-managed lands.But skeptics such as Central Point hunter Michael Mull are wary of the Park Service's attitude toward hunters. One of the agency's leaders told a Senate committee last year that the Park Service would "prefer" to phase hunting out in five years should it get management of the surrounding lands.

SALEM, OR (KPTV) -
The man who allegedly robbed a Target store in Salem is behind bars. The Marion County Sheriff's Office says a Salem police officer spotted 28-year-old Kraig James Fox of Keizer near an I-5 overpass. Fox was arrested on warrants for parole violations and jailed. He is expected to be in court sometime Wednesday. Charges for the robbery are pending. Target store security tried to stop a theft on Monday at the Target on Center Street at 1:40 p.m., but the suspect pulled out a gun when security confronted him.

Gun control Lawsuit over Multnomah County ordinance set for Wednesday Trial

Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Dailey is scheduled to hear from lawyers representing the county and five plaintiffs who are suing the county, claiming the ordinance shouldn’t apply within city limits. The trial begins at 9: 30 a.m. in room 716 of the Multnomah County Courthouse, 1021 S.W. 4th Ave. County commissioners approved the ordinance in April 2013 over vocal opposition from gun rights activists. The ordinance is more stringent than Oregon law. It makes it illegal to carry a loaded weapon in public and mandates that gun owners take pains to keep their weapons out of a minor’s hands. Minor marijuana convictions prior to 1973 and Gun Registration Bill Moves To Rules Committee!!

Yesterday I told you about HB 4035 which allows some corrections officers to keep guns in their cars when they go to work. That bill passed out of House Judiciary today with"no” votes from Representative Carolyn Tomei. I think this is a mistake. Until the DOC agrees to something like this, Corrections Officers should not be easy prey on their way to and from work. Tomei’s objection was her guaranteed"no” on any bill that includes the word"gun” but does not include the word"ban.” Another bill I told you about yesterday, HB 4068, will allow persons who have been convicted of minor marijuana violations in other states to have the same access to CHLs that people who had similar convictions in Oregon have. It will also grant this to persons who had minor marijuana convictions prior to 1973. Once again, Representative Carolyn Tomei HD 41 voted"no.” All other committee members voted YES.

Kelly testified in favor of SB 1551, which OFF warns will expand background checks "to virtually all gun transfers!!

On February 6th former astronaut Mark Kelly testified in favor of more gun control before Oregon's legislature, then went target shooting at the Portland Police Bureau Central Precinct Range. Talk Show host Lars Larson reported this on February 7th, after the Portland Police tweeted a photo of Kelly shooting a handgun at the range. The tweet was deleted from the Portland Police account when it began drawing attention, but the gun control group founded by Kelly and wife Gabby Giffords still has a post on its website about Kelly shooting at the Portland Police range.
Kelly testified in favor of SB 1551, which the Oregon Firearms Federation warns will expand background checks "to virtually all gun transfers, even to a gun you give to your father-in-law or your best friend."

So here are my questions about it: From our friend Tim Greve at NW Armory:
Was he using a high capacity gun? Did he pay for the ammo, or did we taxpayers pay for the ammo? Did we taxpayers pay for the range master and other officers that needed to accompany him?
If he paid for the ammo, which we doubt, then could that be construed as the "lease or rental" of a firearm, which under the bill he testified for would have required a background check? Also, since he was a resident of another state, he wouldn't have been allowed to do a background check/transfer to borrow the handgun under the newly proposed legislation as we understand it.

"Ballotpedia" notes that one of the main issues in our upcoming session will be more gun control. Specifically, "universal background checks." In Oregon the checks are handled by the State Police who already cannot properly handle the ones they are doing. Now they want to extend these restrictions to guns you give or lend to a family member. We have see that background checks = registration. Registration = confiscation. Period. The Senate has 16 Democrats and 14 Republicans. 15 of those Democrats will vote for any gun control that comes to the floor. That means if they peel off 1 Republican they can pass these bills in the Senate. If you live in district with a Republican Senator, you should ask them if they plan to stand up this session. You can rest assured that Bloomberg is going to be throwing money at SOMEONE.

FIRST GUN RESTRICTION BILL SCHEDULED!!

The Senate Judiciary Committee will be introducing its first gun control bill on January 17, at 3:30 PM in Hearing Room F at the Capitol. This is the bill we told you was coming banning private transfers and starting the registration process. The draft of the bill is number LC 154 and is not yet available for the public to see. The legislature is not scheduled to start proceedings until February so they are getting out in front in their efforts to attack your rights.
As you know, all gun registration starts with "background checks" and no doubt this bill will extend the failed background checks to virtually all transfers. So if you want to give a gun to your oldest friend or your nephew, you will now need to ask the State Police for "permission."
