The separation of powers in our Constitution is very clear!!
Back in 2009 (when the democrats had super majorities) we created the Oregon Health Authority as a new state agency. We also ceded to them a lot of the authority that historically belonged to the legislative branch. Along with that we created the insurance exchange (Cover Oregon) as a public corporation, which put them outside the control of the legislature. I think we are headed for a massive train wreck and it may be by design. The reason I say this is because our Governor, and many members in the legislature truly want the complete government takeover of the health care system and this may be the way to accomplish that. I will go into more details during the February Session on this issue. I will close this with a request. I know there are many people who are fed up with government. I know there are also many people to whom one particular issue is the most important to them. What I am asking is twofold. First, stay engaged. It is more important now than at any time I can remember for the people to hold politicians accountable. Secondly, expand your interest beyond your singularly most important issue. I still believe you can do a better job of running your life than the government can, and we are losing these essential freedoms.
Anyone who is on Medicare or is assisting anyone on Medicare needs to file this information away for future use!!
This ran on NBC Evening News and I thought I should send it to all my friends on Medicare as a warning. I've included the segment for you to view. Basically, do not let the hospital admit you with the words "Under Observation." Insist on "In-Patient"designation. Otherwise, you could be responsible for some serious expenses. If your hospital stay is classified as "Under Observation", Medicare will not pay for rehab following your hospitalization.

Meet some frustrated Oregonians whose insurance was cancelled!!
Last week, Scott Grout called his health insurance company to"confirm all was good for 2014” and he could keep his plan. No such luck.
"They informed me that my current plan will be canceled,” said Grout, who lives in Portland."They sent no notice of this. I pro-actively called and was told that I was to be auto-rolled onto a much more expensive plan.” Grout is one of 145,000 Oregonians who buy health coverage on the individual market and have received cancellation notices in recent weeks. Their policies don’t meet the Affordable Care Act’s more robust coverage requirements, which go into effect in January. Grout used to pay $305 a month for his family of four and the plan covered all preventive care and 65 percent of out-of-pocket expenses. The cheapest new plan he could find through Cover Oregon costs $648 a month, with only 50 percent of expenses covered. Grout basically wants a catastrophic policy, but that’s no longer possible under the Affordable Care Act (unless you’re in your 20s).
